Nymphs and wet flies are an extremely popular category of fly patterns. They are fished below the water surface and are designed to imitate insects and worms. A wide variety of fish species can be caught using nymphs and wet flies including trout, bass, crappie, sunfish, bluegill, carp, and more. They can be fished on their own, or in combination with a dry fly pattern. One effective technique is tying the nymph or wet fly below a dry fly with 12-24 inches of tippet in between them.

Sooner or later fish wise up to anglers and their tricks. While Euro nymphs like Perdigons are deadly, largely due to their sink rates and the slow pace at which they bounce along the bottom, the more they are fished, the less effective they will become. The first thing that fish will wise up to is the profile of Euro nymphs, as they really don't resemble the insects that trout typically feed on. A huge, shiny, bulbous head and skinny little body with no legs is not nature's design.
